Delight

In so many ways, becoming a mother has expanded my heart. It has taught me a new level of gratitude and brought joy unending. Yes, some days are challenging. I do live with a breathing, talking, thinking two year old. Yet, even in those days I am acutely aware of the blessings and how the days are fleeting. All good things require work, prayer and perseverance. I would be worried if this mothering job were too easy. :) Even so, look at this face and try and tell me we're not all having a blast!


I loved the baby stage, but I cannot even begin to describe how cool Cricket is now that she is a full fledged toddler. She says the funniest things, has a spunk that is second to none and genuinely loves life. In short, I truly delight in her. I look forward to her company and think about her constantly when we are apart.

I wonder, is this how God delights in us? I have always found comfort in the knowledge that God truly delights in His people. What a feeling...what a truth! To know He, God Almighty, wants to be in our company. He wants to spend time with us, to hear our hearts and share in our joys and sufferings. God also wants us to delight in Him. To desire to sit with Him and know him intimately. What a gift. What a joy!

The Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.

First duo bike ride of the season. My heart delights in them!

The communion Cricket and I share is just a glimpse of the truth of God's delight in us. So often just sitting beside her, talking and playing, is such a breath of fresh air. How much more satisfying is communion with our Father through Christ? Nothing fancy, nothing showy, just honest true time spent in the presence of our Savior. That is my prayer for myself. To take time to continue to delight in Cricket and Mr. Schalk. And, to each day, above all else, take time to delight in my Jesus and give him my true best self.
