Dear Chief: 1 month

Dear Chief,

Happy 1 month birthday, little man. Your Daddy and I can hardly believe a month has already passed. My prayer, among many, before you were born was that you would fit seamlessly into our family as though you had always been here. God graciously answered that prayer. You have come into our family with amazing ease and joy. We truly delight in you!

You are a calm baby and still have your squishy new baby feel and size. At your one month checkup you weighed 10 pounds, 6 ounces and were 22" long. Good job! Your hair has also stuck around. It is usually the topic of conversation when you are out and about. Last week, you went with me to girl's night (Abigail was in town from Florida). As we were about to leave each one of the girls, including me, had to run their hands through your dark baby fine hair. It was so sweet….and also reminded me of those 80's troll dolls you'd rub for luck. ;)

In the last couple of weeks you have begun to smile and coo at people. You track us with your eyes and take in all of your surroundings. You are getting stronger in the legs, stiffening them when we stand you up, and strong with your neck as you turn and hold your head up to see the world. This strength will be to your benefit as your Big Sister is sweet yet feisty. She tells me every morning "what a cute little baby" you are and "I love my baby brother." She also enjoys poking your cheek with her finger and saying, "my boy." I wish the poke were a bit softer, but you don't usually seem to mind. Thanks for being so easy going when she put a piece of chex cereal in your ear. Let's chalk it up to another sign of affection, shall we?

Well, little man, you are an amazing little baby who has captured your Daddy and my heart in magical ways. Knowing how fast you sweet people grow up makes me savor each kiss and each snuggle even more. Happy one month my charming, sweet son.
