Summer Fresh

IMG_9776

One of my favorite things about summer is the overall freshness of the season. To me, it's about the stripping away of winter jackets and putting on of carefree spirits. Summer is the season of last minute adventures and lazy days. It's green trees, fresh flowers and, of course, produce. Oh, glorious summer produce, how I love thee! Crisp veggies, green salads and juicy fruits. I love them all.

For any of my fellow Hoosier readers out there here is a handy produce guide to when things are in season. Because we all know in season fruits and veggies can't be beat. I found this on ye ole Internet. I am sure there is one for your state, too.

On our way home from the lake a couple weeks ago we took a uber fun detour and stopped at the lovely Dutch Farm Market. We picked up blueberries, peach dumplings, apple butter and pickled beets. They had so many goodies to choose from. This farm is extra special as Mr. Schalk has fond memories of stopping here as a kiddo. So, of course he had to show his kiddo around.

Cricket had just woken up from a 3 hour nap (never happens...although, truth be told she is a good nap taker.) She was in a very good mood and loved looking at all the kiddos on the playground as well as the abundant apple orchard.

Mmmm, Summer! My favorite season, heat and all. What do you like best about summer? Picnics and pools? Barefeet and fireworks? Grills and sunshine? Sign me up for all of the above!
